Tarsal Sinus Syndrome
Tarsal Sinus Syndrome Treatment
The sinus tarsi is a small bony canal that runs inside the ankle and, in particular, under the talus bone.
It can be damaged due to an overload of the area, by biomechanical alterations of the foot, causing inflammation of the synovial fluid that contains this channel.
Frequently these patients are usually athletes or people who have had an ankle sprain due to inversion of the foot on some occasion.
Symptoms and rehabilitation
Patients with this syndrome report mild pain, together with hypersensitivity in the external lateral malleolus, making it difficult for them to run.
At the San Roman Podiatric Clinic we recommend in a first phase rest and the application of ice, to reduce pain and inflammation. The specialists of the San Roman Podiatric Clinic can also prescribe, if necessary, anti-inflammatory, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
In our center we have an electrotherapy area with ultrasound, TENS and laser, which will help reduce inflammation.
An important part of the treatment can be the mobilization of the sub-talar joint, as well as the correction of any biomechanical alteration, with our custom-made orthopedic insoles, under plaster mold and made with the latest generation materials.
