Morton’s Neuroma
Treatment of Morton's neuroma
Morton’s neuroma is also known as interdigital neuroma or plantar neuroma. It is a degeneration of the plantar digital nerve accompanied by a fibrosis, causing a fibrous thickening of the nerve. The inflammation and compression of this nerve causing a burning pain, like a cramp irradiated towards the neighboring toes. In 75% of the cases, it is located between the 3rd and the 4th metatarsal bone, although it can sometimes present between the 2nd and the 3rd (17% of the cases). It is many times more common in women aged 15-50 years.
At Clínica San Román we have an extensive experience in the treatment of Morton’s Neuroma, applying a conservative treatment with custom-made orthopaedic insoles, suitable footwear and, as a last resort, by means of a chemical neurolysis. We have the latest technology for the diagnosis of the neuroma by means of the 4D EcoDoppler equipment (EcoDoppler) which allows diagnosing and treating with chemical neurolysis by means of a guided needle. This minimally invasive technique with 4D EcoDoppler allows the patient to return to his/her daily activities immediately.
