Shoes suitable for each sport

When practicing sports, it is necessary to have the right sports equipment and sneakers are an essential element.

There is a great variety of types and models of sports shoes, each one specific for a type of sports activity.

The surface where the exercise will be practiced, the model of footwear and the type of foot must also be taken into account, for which we will refer to which sports footwear is ideal depending on the type of sport to be practiced.

Running shoes: the general characteristics will depend on the weight of the athlete, the average distance to be covered (short or long distances); and the terrain on which the sport is practiced, whether asphalt, dirt or track.

Another aspect to take into account is the sole, most of them have small studs to provide better traction or grip to the shoe.

For unstable terrain such as mountainous terrain, it is advisable to use shoes with slightly larger cleats.

An aspect not to be overlooked is the “progression line” that regulates the correct toe-off and improves step progression, this progression line is a design; it runs from the rearfoot to the forefoot in the center of the sole.

Basketball shoes: this sport involves sharp, aggressive, high-impact movements on hard surfaces.

The sharp turns required by this sport have an impact on the ankles, so the shoes used for basketball are high, boot-type shoes for greater ankle support and stability. In addition, the design of the soles shows the drawing of a circle that would be located under the head of the first metatarsal, in order to make movements smoother and more comfortable for the athlete.

The importance of good cushioning in the midsole for the reception of the jumps concurrently performed by basketball players should be emphasized.

Soccer boots: the essential feature of soccer boots that differentiates them from other sports footwear are the studs located on the sole, designed for greater traction and grip of the foot to the surface where it is practiced.

The studs of sports shoes vary depending on the surface, whether it is artificial turf, grass or earth. When shopping for soccer boots, you should make sure that no heel is just below the head of the first metatarsal, as this would lead to discomfort in the area and in the metatarsophalangeal joint of the hallux (first toe), which could even lead to a sesamoiditis.

Another fundamental aspect that must always be taken into account is the rigidity of the sole, which is essential in the midfoot or internal plantar arch area, where the cleats are not located.

This area must be mainly rigid in order to avoid stress fractures, mainly at the level of the styloid process or at the diaphysis of the fifth metatarsal.

It is also important to avoid footwear with excessively long heels, which may cause injuries to the knee in combination with internal rotational rotation of the same.

Tennis shoes: the most outstanding feature is the reinforcement they usually have in the forefoot.

This is a consequence of the characteristics of this sport, in which lateral displacements are mostly performed, requiring a reinforcement that compensates for the pressure exerted by these movements.

This is why both tennis and basketball shoes have a circle in the design of their soles located under the head of the first metatarsal, which helps in the execution of demanding lateral displacements and sharp turns.
