Percutaneous surgery:
the difference is enormous.

Not all bunion surgery is the same. The percutaneous technique that we practice at Clínica San Román is radically different from traditional surgery.

  • Long period with bandages and splints

Percutaneous Surgery (Clínica San Román)

  • Recovery in 4-6 weeks
  • Virtually imperceptible scar

Everything you need to know about bunion surgery

Do I have to be admitted to the hospital for surgery?
No. The percutaneous surgery we perform is completely ambulatory. It is performed in our own clinic under local anesthesia in approximately 45 minutes. Once completed, you rest briefly and return home the same day without hospitalization.
How long does recovery take?
With the percutaneous technique the recovery is significantly shorter than with traditional surgery. Most patients can walk (with special footwear) from the next day. In 4-6 weeks they can usually resume their usual activity. The complete follow-up is performed in our clinic.
Does the operation hurt? What about the postoperative period?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, so during the operation you feel no pain. The postoperative period of percutaneous surgery is much more bearable than that of traditional surgery: the discomfort is minimal and perfectly controlled with standard analgesics. Most patients are pleasantly surprised.
Can I have surgery on both feet at the same time?
Yes, in many cases it is possible to operate on both feet in the same session. It depends on the individual assessment of each patient. In the free consultation our specialists will evaluate your specific case and recommend the most suitable option for you .
When will I be able to return to work after the operation?
It depends on the type of work. If your activity is sedentary or office, many patients return to work in 5-7 days with comfortable shoes. If you need to be on your feet for a long time or perform physical exertion, the time may be somewhat longer. We will determine in your personalized assessment.
Do you have financing options?
Yes, we have different payment options and interest-free installments. In the consultation we will inform you of the exact prices and possibilities available. We also accept mutual medical insurance companies. Call us or fill out the form for more information.
Is the correction of the bunion definitive?
Bunion surgery has permanent results when performed correctly. The procedure corrects the bony alignment of the toe, eliminating the bunion structurally. Following the postoperative recommendations for footwear and exercise helps to maintain the long-term result.
