What nobody explains is the rest: how many days they need to be here, whether they will be able to take the flight home, and who follows them up once they are back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This guide answers exactly that. There are three concrete reasons that come up in almost every international consultation we receive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Both feet in the same session.<\/strong> In many European health systems one foot is operated on and the second waits months. With minimal incision surgery, the bilateral approach can be considered. Not because we expect complications, but because travelling with a margin is more comfortable than travelling in a rush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I fly after percutaneous foot surgery?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Yes.<\/strong> In most cases you can fly <strong>24 to 48 hours after surgery<\/strong>. Before the return flight there is an in-person check-up at the clinic: that is where we confirm the dressing and the progress are as expected and where you are cleared to travel. Nobody boards a plane without that check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">General recommendations for the flight home:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ask for an aisle seat<\/strong> or extra legroom. Being able to stretch and stand up without disturbing anyone makes a difference.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Stand up and move your ankles regularly<\/strong> during the flight, unless told otherwise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wear the post-surgical shoe<\/strong>, do not pack it in your case.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Request airport assistance<\/strong> when booking. It is free at EU airports and saves you long terminal distances.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Keep your medical report in your hand luggage<\/strong>, not in the hold.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alicante-Elche (ALC) has direct connections with London, Manchester, Birmingham, Dublin and Amsterdam, among others, which simplifies the journey considerably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How follow-up works once you are back home<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the part that reassures international patients the most, and the one almost no clinic explains in advance. The scheme is this, and it is the same for everyone coming from abroad:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>In-person check-up before the return flight.<\/strong> The last visit in Alicante, and the one that clears you to travel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Remote follow-up afterwards.<\/strong> By video consultation, WhatsApp or email, whichever suits you best. Sending a photograph of the foot by WhatsApp resolves most day-to-day questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A report for your doctor or podiatrist at home<\/strong>, so any professional in your country can continue local follow-up knowing exactly which technique was used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What we can tell you now is that <strong>there is no discharge-and-goodbye<\/strong>.
