Es entsteht, wenn der zwischen den Mittelfu\u00dfk\u00f6pfen verlaufende Nerv wiederholt komprimiert und gereizt wird, was zu einer chronischen Entz\u00fcndungsreaktion mit perineuraler Fibrose (Narbengewebe um den Nerv herum) f\u00fchrt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Am h\u00e4ufigsten ist der <strong>dritte Zehenzwischenraum<\/strong> (zwischen dem dritten und vierten Zeh) betroffen, doch kann die Erkrankung auch im zweiten Zehenzwischenraum (zwischen dem zweiten und dritten Zeh) auftreten. Sie <strong>tritt bei Frauen viermal h\u00e4ufiger auf<\/strong> als bei M\u00e4nnern, insbesondere im Alter zwischen <strong>40 und 60 Jahren<\/strong>, und steht in engem Zusammenhang mit dem Tragen von engem Schuhwerk oder Schuhen mit hohen Abs\u00e4tzen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Es wurde erstmals 1876 von Thomas G. Morton beschrieben. Trotz seines Namens handelt es sich nicht um ein echtes Neurom (Nerventumor), sondern um eine <strong>degenerative perineurale Fibrose<\/strong>. Der Nerv entz\u00fcndet sich, verdickt sich und wird zwischen den Mittelfu\u00dfknochen eingeklemmt, was starke Schmerzen verursacht, die viele Patienten dazu zwingen, anzuhalten und ihre Schuhe
